Antibiotics are medicines commonly used to treat and prevent infections caused by bacteria. Can you imagine a time when the antibiotics we rely on across various healthcare specialities stop working, causing limited or lack of available treatment options? Unfortunately, antibiotic resistance could make this a reality. In this month’s edition of our newsletter, we take a look at antibiotic resistance as it poses a threat to our collective existence and actions, we can take to mitigate it. The topic for this month was selected in commemoration of the World Antibiotics Awareness Week, an annual event set aside by the World Health Organization (WHO) to create global awareness of antibiotic resistance towards promoting behavioural change and rational use of antibiotics.
